On The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon is known for delivering humorous surprises on an unsuspecting audience. With his surprise visit to the graduation ceremony for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Sunday, however, the late night host wasn’t aiming for laughs.
Fallon stunned the crowd with a guest appearance at the Class of 2018’s convocation at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., delivering a speech to the 784 graduating students still reeling from the Feb. 14 mass shooting at their school.
Congratulations Marjory Stoneman Douglas Class of 2018! You are not just the future – you are the present. Keep changing the world. Keep making us proud. #MSDStrong #YouAreThePresent pic.twitter.com/czvZwezKSt

“When something feels hard, remember that it gets better,” Fallon told the assembled students and their families in his speech. “Choose to move forward, and don’t let anything stop you.”
The four seniors who were among the 17 victims of the massacre — Nicholas Dworet, Joaquin Oliver, Meadow Pollack, and Carmen Schentrup — were each awarded a posthumous degree.
