Idris Elba Named People's Sexiest Man Alive

Idris Elba was named by People as the Sexiest Man Alive for the first time ever on Tuesday.

The British actor, 46, has become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars over the course of his career, according to People. From his stint as the resident heartthrob on The Office to his much more serious roles on The Wire and his 2012 Golden Globe-winning performance in the TV series, Luther, Elba has proven himself a star.

But maybe only to the rest of us.

“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’” the actor told the magazine upon learning his newest accolade. “Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”

Elba is People’s 33rd Sexiest Man Alive, joining a list of past winners that includes Chris Hemsworth, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, David Beckham, Dwayne Johnson and last year’s controversial pick, Blake Shelton.
