Henry Cavill will no longer be the DC universe’s Superman, according to a story in The Hollywood Reporter. Contract negotiations between Cavill’s representative and Warner Bros over a cameo in Shazam! stalled, leading to Warner Bros. reported decision to move on from Cavill.
After The Hollywood Reporter published the story, Warners Bros. released a statement that read, “While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source inside the studio said that a single actor’s tenure as Superman is not designed to last very long, likening the role James Bond. DC also appears to be headed in a direction away from the Superman character, as a Supergirl movie is in the works in which, according to the comics, Superman would be a baby and therefore not part of the plot.
