Andy Rubin, the former Google VP behind the Android operating system, who left the company after a sexual misconduct allegation in 2014, has been accused of hiding Google’s payments from his wife and operating a secret sex ring, BuzzFeed News reported.
The $90 million exit package Rubin received from Google after an employee accused the former exec of coercing her into oral sex in 2013 sparked controversy at the company when the news broke earlier this year. Now Rubin’s wife, Rie Hirabaru Rubin, is accusing her husband of concealing his income and making payments to other women he was sexually involved with.
A recently unsealed civil complaint filed by Rie back in October accuses Rubin of conspiring with his former lawyer to convince Rie Rubin to sign a prenup that would prohibit her from making any claim to her husband’s future earnings. Rie Rubin, who is also seeking a divorce in a separate family court, is now suing in an attempt to invalidate the prenuptial agreement.
The lawsuit alleges that Rubin concealed his income from his wife to the extent that she “even now does not understand the full scope of his finances.” The complaint also claims Rubin opened a separate bank account shortly before leaving Google in order to hide his exit package earnings and make “hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments to other women.”
According to the lawsuit, some of those payments allegedly went to women who were participating in “what appeared to be a sex ring” Rie Rubin has accused her husband of running. The suit claims some of Rubin’s affairs included “‘ownership’ relationships with other women, whereby Rubin would pay for their expenses in exchange for offering them to other men.”
San Mateo Superior Court Judge Susan Greenberg unsealed the complaint on Tuesday, ruling that the suit could proceed, but asking that the plaintiff submit an amended complaint removing many of the accusations regarding Rubin’s affairs.
“We’re encouraged because the court’s tentative order permits the case to go forward,” said Brian Danitz, a lawyer for Rie Rubin. “Still, we’re disappointed the allegations regarding Andy Rubin’s relationships in exchange for payment has been stricken from the complaint.”
