At least some of the ashes of one Bertrand Richards ended up going up the nose of his son, Rolling Stones’ guitarist Keith.
Star Trek actor James Doohan, né Scotty, asked that his ashes be shot (or “beamed up”) into space.
Then there was Hunter S. Thompson, who had his remains fired out of a 15-story cannon to the tune of fireworks and Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky.” (Johnny Depp footed the bill.)
But for our money, no one’s final resting place beats that of plumber and late Mets fan Roy Riegel, whose friend Tom McDonald is currently traveling to ballparks across the U.S. to flush his friend’s remains down the toilet. McDonald didn’t intend to take the loo-route when he asked Riegel’s family for some ashes in 2008. But after he tried scattering some of them at PNC Park and had a Lebowski-style blowback, the solution was clear (well, assuming he also flushed beforehand, it was).
“I know people might think it’s weird, and if it were anyone else’s ashes, I’d agree,” McDonald told The New York Times. “But for Roy, this is the perfect tribute to a plumber and a baseball fan and just a brilliant, wild guy. I know he’s roaring at all this.”
Riegel’s remains have already visited 16 MLB stadiums and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
RI … Pee.
