Over 30,000 fitness experts from around the world responded to an annual survey on the exercise trends that will likely emerge and catch fire in 2019.
Notably, the trends from past years that proved to be most popular — like high intensity interval training and group workouts — were the one’s that both delivered results and were accessible to people in their everyday lives, NBC News reported.
This year, wearable technology took first place after coming in third in 2018. Wearable tech is proving to be popular because it can help people of all varieties of fitness levels and goals track their progress.
“Wearing a smart watch is great… if you use it correctly,” celebrity trainer Joey Thurman, creator of the Joey Thurman fit app, told the news site. “It’s nice that you hit your 10,000 steps a day, but how many steps were you taking before you got the watch?”
Also making the list are streaming workouts — those which provide access through a subscription of some sort and allow a professionally tailored workout to happen anywhere, any time. NBC recommends trying one out for a month and seeing how often you actually use it before committing. An easy way to tell if it’s financially worth it for you is to divide the price by how many times you streamed a class.
