As she sat behind glass in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman was far from the ABC backlot where she once starred in the popular primetime show.
Earlier that morning she awoke to FBI agents, with guns drawn, looking to arrest the Hollywood actress for her part in an alleged college cheating scheme, The Los Angeles Times reports.
Huffman spent hours in a a Federal detention center and in court where she answered “yes” to several questions including whether or not she understood the charges.
Released on $250,000 bail, Huffman is expected to be back in a Boston courtroom on March 29 to address the charges of which she is accused of disguising a $15,000 “donation” in a bribery scheme. The goal was to improve her daughter’s SAT scores by allowing someone to proctor the test and correct the answer.
According to court documents, Huffman’s daughter saw an increase of 400 points between the first and second time she took the SATs.
An FBI spokeswoman said that a tactical team was not used to arrest the actress “but all FBI agents are armed and may draw their weapons as a precautionary measure based on the circumstances during the execution of any warrant,” she added.
Full House star and Hallmark Channel regular Lori Loughlin was also indicted on charges for her involvement in the scheme.
