Drama From the Critics Choice Awards Wasn’t Limited to the Movies Being Honored

There were two surprise ties during the ceremony honoring the best in film.

Alfonso Cuarón won a best director and best picture honor for Roma at the 2019 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday evening — but two surprises stole the show.

The ties came in the categories of best lead actress in a motion picture and lead actress in a limited series or TV movie, sending four women home as the winners of two awards.

InLady Gaga (A Star Is Born) and Glenn Close (The Wife) both won for film, and Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) and Patricia Arquette (Escape at Dannemora) tied in their category.
