Details Emerge In Double-Murder-Suicide Involving New York Real Estate Exec

Police have plenty of physical evidence, but little in the way of motive, surrounding a horrific double-murder-suicide that has rocked a leafy Westchester neighborhood.

56-year-old Steven Dym shot his wife Loretta, 50, and their daughter Caroline, 18, to death, before turning a 12-gauge shotgun on himself, authorities told The New York Post.

A 20-year-old son, William, was away at the University of Southern California during the horrific crime.

Prior to the discovery of the bodies in their Fox Hill Road home in exclusive suburban neighborhood of Pound Ridge late Friday morning, police say there was no history of domestic violence calls and no filing for divorce.

But police are investigating whether the fact that the 4,551-foot family home had been put on the market for $1.7 million may have been motivated by financial problems.

By all outward accounts, they were a successful family — Steven Dym was the CEO of the real estate company, Gabriel Management, which had been founded by his father, Lawrence. His wife was a vice president of Club Quarters Hotels; their daughter a well-liked student-athlete at Sacred Heart Greenwich.

“It seemed that they were very happy,” a family friend told The Post. “They were both all about their kids, their kids’ futures. I would have never guessed in a million years.”

But The Post notes that true crime infamy does lurk in Dym’s family history. In November 1992, Paula Dym, Steven’s mother, attacked his father with a hatchet while he slept. She was charged with assault at the time.
