David Bowie's Son Questioning Legality of Biopic About His Father

David Bowie‘s son, Duncan Jones, criticized plans for a biopic about his father by questioning whether filmmakers actually have the rights to Bowie’s music.

The film, titled Stardust, will star musician-turned-actor Johnny Flynn as the iconic singer and focus on Bowie’s first American tour in 1971, The Independent reported.

But, as Jones pointed out via Twitter, fans might not actually get to hear any of Bowie’s hits during the movie.

Im not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn't know.
Im saying that as it stands, this movie won't have any of dads music in it, & I can't imagine that changing. If you want to see a biopic without his music or the families blessing, thats up to the audience.

“Pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for ANY biopic… I would know,” Jones, also a director, tweeted on Thursday.

Jones noted that the lack of Bowie music didn’t necessarily mean that a film wouldn’t be made, but seemed to make it clear that the current Flynn production lacked “the family’s blessing.”

According to Variety, Jena Malone will play Bowie’s then-wife Angie, while Marc Maron has joined the cast as the singer’s publicist.

Flynn, who initially came to national attention with his band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, is currently starring opposite Kit Harrington in the stage production of True West. He previously appeared in the film Beast and in the Netflix series Lovesick.
