Ahead of the release of his new movie The 15:17 to Paris, Clint Eastwood stopped by Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show to talk about why he decided to cast the real-life heroes who thwarted the 2015 terror attack in the movie, instead of actors to replace them.

“It wasn’t a terribly popular idea at the beginning,” Eastwood admitted. “But I thought it was a great idea…the fact that the guy didn’t have a gun, he had an AK-47, plus a 9mm pistol, plus a box-cutter knife — I mean the guy was laden down for bear. And all of the sudden, [Spencer] just runs at him.”
