Bumble, the dating app famous for requiring women to initiate conversations instead of men, said it will no longer permit users to have guns in their photos. In a blog post, the company said, “As mass shootings continue to devastate communities across the country, it’s time to state unequivocally that gun violence is not in line with our values, nor do these weapons belong on Bumble,” according to New York Post. The dating app is also going to direct its teams of 5,000 moderators to review profiles and make sure there are no weapons present. Any profiles found on Bumble that violate the rules will have their photos removed. However, members of the military or law enforcement will be allowed to have weapons in their photos, but only if they are in uniform. There will be no punishment if a user has weapons in an Instagram photo that is linked to their Bumble account. According to NY Post, this is not the first time Bumble has banned certain images from its platforms. Users are not allowed to post photos where they appear partially clothed, such as in bikinis or underwear. Tinder, one of Bumble’s biggest rivals, has not introduced any sort of gun ban, but its terms do prohibit users from posting any content that is “threatening” or “incites violence.”
