The film Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21, but you don’t have to wait until then to get a taste for it. That’s because you can now experience it in virtual reality (VR) thanks to a new release in the Oculus Video app.
How does it work? Download for free the Assassin’s Creed movie VR experience through the Oculus Video app. It’s available for both Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. It’s also available as a 360-degree video on Facebook.
Take a look at the Westworld-esque experience you’re in for below.
If you’re unfamiliar with the plot of the video game, here’s a quick summary. It follows the struggles between two groups, the Assassins (good guys) and Knights Templars (bad guys), through a fiction-hued world where real-life historical events actually took place.
Case in point: The upcoming movie, which is obviously fictional (but based on the game), is set, in part, in the ruthless era of the Spanish Inquisition.
In the film, you’ll be following main character Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender), who experiences this alternate reality and realizes he’s the descendant of an Assassin.
Much asskickery will follow. And of course, with other stars such as Marion Cotillard, Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams (Omar from The Wire), and Jeremy Irons in the cast, it should be nothing short of a blockbuster.
In addition to experiencing the life of an Assassin in the comforts of your own home, you can also head to select theaters to do it. There will be several Oculus Rift demos set up at AMC theaters in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Austin, Texas, between December 2, 2016 and January 1, 2017. —Relaxnews with additional reporting by the RealClearLife staff
