What could possibly be an alien probe was discovered soaring around our Solar System, according to Harvard University astronomers.
The cigar-shaped probe was spotted in October of 2017 over Hawaii and was perhaps sent by another life form to “investigate” Earth, the researchers speculate. It’s since been nicknamed “Oumuamua,” a Hawaiian word meaning “a messenger that reaches out from the distant past.”
At first, Oumuamua was written off as a comet or asteroid by some scientists, but others believe it belongs in a new class of “interstellar objects.”
A new paper written by Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics researchers goes all in on the extraterrestrial theory.
“‘Oumuamua may be a fully operational probe sent intentionally to Earth vicinity by an alien civilization,” they wrote. “Considering an artificial origin, one possibility is that ‘Oumuamua is a light sail, floating in interstellar space as a debris from an advanced technological equipment.”
