Tesla’s 1.9-Second Roadster Just Arrived Way Ahead of Schedule

Also of note: Their semi. It does 0-60 in 5 seconds flat.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla’s long-awaited and just-unveiled semi truck can “transform into a robot, fight aliens and make one hell of a latte.”

We’re pretty sure he’s kidding, but based on the performance stats the out-of-nowhere but also just-unveiled Tesla Roadster apparently is capable of pulling off, we honestly can’t be too sure.

With a 0 to 60 time of 1.9 seconds and a 0 to 100 time of just 4.2, the base model Roadster will be the fastest production car ever made once it starts rolling off the line, according to Musk. Those eye-popping accelerations numbers are buoyed by other speed specs including a top speed of more than 250 MPH and 630 miles of highway driving thanks to a 200 kWh battery.

This is what the car and a ride in the new four-seater — which was given to anyone who put down a $50k deposit without knowing the final asking price — looks like:

As for that final price, the Roadster will be available in 2020 starting at $200,000 with the first 1,000 models being sold as the Founder’s Series line with a cost of $250,000 apiece.

Now as for that Optimus Prime-looking Tesla Semi, we don’t know a price but we do know it will allegedly get 500 miles to the charge while towing a full 80,000-pound load. Also when fully loaded, the truck will be able to hit 60 MPH in 20 seconds — and do it in only 5 when unloaded.

Equipped with a number of autonomous driving and safety features, the truck comes with a million-mile guarantee on its powertrain with early models set to be delivered in 2019. Some of those will apparently be going to trucking and freight company J.B. Hunt.

“Reserving Tesla trucks marks an important step in our efforts to implement industry-changing technology,” J.B. CEO John Roberts said. “We believe electric trucks will be most beneficial on local and dray routes, and we look forward to utilizing this new, sustainable technology.”

The semi doesn’t brew coffee in a clip Musk shared, but here’s an idea of what’s coming in 2019:
