Well Would You Look at This Piece of Junk

This $150k BMW i8 has a, uh, rust job. But why?

Austin Mahone is a 20-year-old pop singer from San Antonio, Texas.

And this is his ugly car.

Though he’s barely old enough to drive it, the 20-year-old commissioned custom car graphics shop MetroWrapz to coat a BMW i8 in a rusted-out look befitting of an antique Campbell’s can. The oxidized-styled finish is reminiscent of the “weathered” style the architects who designed the Barclays Center in Brooklyn decided to use, and, like that arena, it’s somewhat polarizing.

Love or hate the car’s orange-and-brown, uh, rust job, there’s no doubt that the quartet of 22-inch gold rims from Vossen Wheels that the i8 sits atop look pretty sharp. The golden accents on the front grille and BMW logo are also nice touches.

But re: the whole weathered patina thing — let’s go ahead and leave that to the experts from now on.
