Yet Another Challenger Emerges to Dethrone Tesla as Electric Car King

Two words: butterfly doors

When you’re king of the e-car mountain like Tesla, challengers for the top spot are natural. Sometimes they come from newbies; at other times established veterans; and then there are the plain ol’ freaks.

The latest threat to Tesla’s crown was unveiled by MG Motor at the Shanghai Automotive Show and we must say, based on the butterfly doors alone, it should warrant Musk’s attention.

A four-seat sports coupe with a modular electric powertrain, the MG E-motion does 0-60 in less than four seconds, has a range of more than 310 miles and costs a few rungs under $40,000.

Equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system that can be accessed by all of the e-car’s occupants, the MG E-motion’s headlights were inspired by the design of the London Eye wheel.

Since the build is MG’s first foray into the world of e-cars, the British marque was initially unsure if the E-motion would ever be produced but since it was received so favorably in Shanghai, it sounds like we can expect to see it on left side of the road as soon as 2020, Autocar reported.

Ball’s in your court, Musk.
