Meet the Gatekeepers Giving the Land Rover Defender Life After Death

All cars go to heaven

It was just about a year ago when the Land Rover Defender was regretfully discontinued.

Aside from the occasional anniversary model, we thought the move meant the end of new Defenders warming our 4×4 hearts. We were wrong.

Thanks to personalization shops like Project Kahn in the UK, new custom versions — like this Land Rover Defender Double Cab Pickup — are still here to delight (and tease) us with glimpses of what might have been.

Using a classic all-wheel-drive Defender as a base, the Double Cab Pickup model was blessed with custom touches like extra-wide front and rear wings, a new front bumper and grille, an extra two inches of suspension lift, alloy wheels, a stainless steel exhaust and a slew of LEDs.

That SUV’s 122-HP diesel engine ain’t gonna save you any cash at the pump and its purchase price ($873,000) won’t really make up for it, but the Defender Double Cab could still be worth it.

Especially if you turn it into your mobile home.
