Aaron Sorkin wouldn’t write about President Trump in any West Wing reboot, but he has some ideas.
The Social Network screenwriter opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about his next several projects, as his directorial debut Molly’s Game enters theaters and the shortlist of Oscar hopefuls. And he’s still brainstorming West Wing plotlines.
Sorkin dreams of a West Wing starring Sterling K. Brown as the president, he told The Hollywood Reporter. He would also want Martin Sheen, who played President Jed Bartlett in the original series, to return as an advisor to the new president. This scenario interests him more than anything involving Trump, Sorkin said.
Sorkin has already attached stars to all three of his next announced projects: Jeff Daniels will play Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird; Alec Baldwin will assume the role of Colonel Jessup in A Few Good Men; and Cate Blanchette will take on Lucille Ball in Lucy and Desi.
Addressing Molly’s Game turbulent path to theatres, Sorkin also talked about the end of his relationship with his former agent Ari Emanuel. “Leaving Ari was every bit as difficult for me as my divorce,” Sorkin told The Hollywood Reporter. Without Emmanuel, Sorkin moves onto his accumulating list of reboots and new projects.
