Orson Welles had a notoriously difficult time getting his films made when he was alive.
So consider his “new” movie a monumental achievement: 48 years after he started filming and 33 years after his passing, we’re finally going to witness the auteur’s last motion picture, “The Other Side of the Wind”. You can watch the first trailer above.
“Wind” — a meta mockumentary about a late director’s final, unfinished film coming to light and starring legendary directors John Huston and Peter Bogdanovich — was filmed at different times between 1970-76. It’s a mishmash of color, B&W, film-within-a-film and, well, some incomplete passages, as the film was never technically finished.
The film was originally missing an opening narration, one explosion scene, a score and, most importantly, hadn’t been edited by Welles yet. But thanks to the efforts of producers Frank Marshall and Filip Jan Rymsza, editor Bob Murawski and composer Michel Legrand, a completed work will debut on Netflix on November 2nd.
Whether Welles himself would approve? Doubtful.
