Michael Mina’s been winning Michelin stars since his namesake restaurant opened on California Street in 2010.
Now, he’s debuting a new menu in his flagship kitchen: a Mediterranean-inspired, seafood-centric tribute to his childhood in Cairo.
He knows the S.F. food scene better than just about anybody — which is why we were delighted to get his recs for favorite eight meals in town (the standard three, plus brunch and drinks).
Spoiler: the man believes in the age-old tradition of eating at the bar.
Breakfast: Tartine Bakery

Brunch: Diane’s Bloody Mary Bar

Lunch: Zuni Café

Drinks: Leo’s Oyster Bar, Trick Dog, PCH
“Depending on the neighborhood you’re in, Trick Dog is great in the Mission, Leo’s Oyster Bar in downtown, and PCH if you’re in Union Square — or make an evening of it and take your friends on a bar crawl to all three! You can’t go wrong with any of them.”
