While it’s not impossible to traverse the South Pole these days, just even contemplating the journey takes some stones of steel. But that’s the Exploration Company’s specialty. And their Antarctica Expedition, an adventure through the Earth’s last “true wilderness,” is now accepting the bravest of souls.
Over 100 years ago, the first man to reach the South Pole, Roald Amundsen, set up base at what is now known as the Amundsen Coast Camp. And this journey let’s you in on what that trek might have looked like … except with trucks.
In a fleet of 6×6 polar-equipped trucks fitted with expert guides, the trek goes shore to shore across western Antarctica popping in at the Pole and the Ross Ice Shelf via the Leverett Glacier. Safe to say you’ll be in seasoned hands. The company’s partner Arctic Trucks has clocked nearly 150,000 miles on the Antarctic Ice Cap in the past few seasons including their work with the well-documented Walking With The Wounded charity South Pole expedition.
Rest assured there’s plenty of non-truck time for getting wild. Activities along the way include cross-country skiing, heading up to the peak of Antarctica’s highest mountain, Mt. Vinson and snowmobiling from Union Camp.
