Brazilian Drug Trafficker Made an Attempted Prison Break Disguised as His Daughter

Nothing to see here, just your typical teenage girl

A well-known drug-trafficker went full Scooby Doo villain last weekend when he tried to escape a prison outside Rio de Janeiro dressed as his 19-year-old daughter.

Clauvino da Silva’s escape plan, as NPR reported, was to have his daughter visit him in prison, then slip out disguised as the teen, leaving her behind in his place. Da Silva attempted to sneak out in a not altogether unconvincing (but thoroughly disturbing) disguise consisting of a long black wig, silicone mask and pink tee-shirt and bra.

According to NPR, the plan may have worked, had da Silva’s nervousness not tipped off authorities. A video posted to Twitter reveals the grand unmasking, during which a guard strips the prisoner of his wig and glasses, before Da Silva admits defeat and gives up the shirt and bra. After removing his mask, da Silva fessed up and revealed his name to the authorities.

A former leader of the Red Command, which The Associated Press has called “one of the most powerful criminal groups in Brazil,” da Silva had been sentenced to 73 years and 10 months in prison. According to NPR, it’s unclear how much Da Silva’s daughter knew about the escape plot. She was questioned by authorities along with seven other recent visitors believed to have covertly provided da Silva’s disguise.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the con’s first attempted jailbreak. He escaped a facility called Instituto Penal Vicente Piragibe via a sewer system along with at least 30 other prisoners back in 2013, but was subsequently caught.

Following his most recent failed prison break, da Silva was reportedly transferred to a maximum security unit.
