Peloton Warns “Extraordinary Demand” Could Delay Holiday Shipments

If you’re still able to access any pre-COVID memories, you may recall a period of time last year when the world briefly lost its mind over a holiday Peloton commercial in which a man gifts the trendy exercise bike to his wife.

It was a simpler time, and while the idea of a man gifting his wife a Peloton bike for Christmas was scandalous for some reason in 2019, we should have counted our blessings. As it turns out, people actually do want Pelotons — particularly amid pandemic lockdowns and gym closures — and the company has warned customers it may not be able to keep up with the impending holiday demand.

Peloton has warned that an “extraordinary demand” — which resulted in record revenues of $758 million for the first fiscal quarter — has led to “extended delays” in shipments, Forbes reported. According to the company’s website, U.S. customers could face a 4-6 week wait for a regular Peloton Bike, while wait times for the Bike+ are expected to remain “elevated” well into 2021.

In a letter to shareholders, Peloton admitted the increased demand had resulted in “unacceptably long wait times” that negatively affected customer experience.

“As we rapidly scale our organization to meet the extraordinary demand for our products, we realize that some of our Members have faced extended delays associated with receiving our products or having support requests fulfilled,” the company wrote.

Turns out we all owe the Peloton Husband an apology. He was simply ahead of his time. And if there’s a Peloton on your wishlist this year, you might want to give your own Peloton Husband a heads up ASAP.
