The US Virgin Islands Will Pay You $300 to Visit in 2017

This is not a test

As if the list of reasons to head to the Caribbean wasn’t convincing enough already — beach time, frozen cocktails, poor cell service — you can add one more.

A rather convincing one more.

In 2017, the US Virgin Islands will pay you to vacation there.

To celebrate the 100-year anniversary of becoming a US territory, visitors to St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas will receive a $300 stipend for use on historical and cultural sightseeing and experiences like eco-tours, museum admissions, kayaking and hiking.

To get in on the goods, go to VisitUSVI.com and book a three-night minimum stay at one of the participating hotels. The department of tourism will send $300 in credit to use at any of the participating locations.

This is the kind of birthday party we could get used to.
