Whether you’re looking for an in-town break or somewhere to stash friends from out of town, some good news: This fall brings three notable hotel openings to Washington, D.C. These include a second outpost from a saucy European brand, the latest luxe property from The Pendry, and not one but two debuts in a certain ever-more-emerging neighborhood. Whether your vibe is a luxurious waterfront stay at The Wharf, or a trendy, food-centric stay in NoMa, we’ve got you covered.
CitizenM NoMa
NoMa, with its rapidly growing profile, makes sense as the second D.C. home for CitizenM, the cool Dutch brand with excellent public spaces. You’ll find several thoughtful details in the 296 rooms on offer, like extra-large king beds with what CitizenM claims to be the world’s fluffiest pillows, wall-to-wall soundproof windows, and a “jungle-like power shower.” There’s also an in-room tablet and a phone app that’ll let you control the room’s colored mood lighting and blackout blinds, browse menus and schedule room service. And while the accommodations are modern, cozy and comfortable, where CitizenM really shines is in their airy, colorful and artfully decorated common spaces. Their lobby lounge, for example, features a cafe, ample seating and communal working spaces, and iMacs for guest use.
Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf
With a recent opening in Park City and a handful more in the pipeline, luxe brand Pendry has been steadily expanding around the United States since its debut in 2017. Luckily for travelers and residents alike, their next outpost will be Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf, opening on October 26. With 131 guest rooms, including 38 suites, the property also features a signature Spa Pendry and three food and beverage destinations (a plush/moody lobby bar, pool deck with an indoor/outdoor restaurant, and a day-to-night rooftop lounge). Location-wise, the hotel’s setting on the banks of the Potomac River means there’ll be plenty to see and do at the hotel’s doorstep. Kayak, paddleboard and electric boat rentals are all on offer from Wharf vendors, water taxis stop here and will connect you with destinations like Georgetown, and for sports fans, Audi Field and Nationals Park are just a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk.
The Morrow
The second hotel on the list opening in NoMa, The Morrow will debut this fall at the corner of 3rd Street and M Street NE. Part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, it will offer 203 guest rooms and a location within walking distance to some of the neighborhood’s best bars and restaurants, not to mention Union Market. But guests of The Morrow, and city residents, won’t need to look beyond the hotel’s bounds for excellent food. Aiming to be a gastronomic destination in and of itself, hotel will house three food and beverage venues from Michelin-starred Chef Nicholas Stefanelli, from Masseria, Philotimo and Officina. The offerings include Le Clou, a modern French brasserie; Vesper, an 11th-floor cocktail lounge featuring live music, hors d’oeuvres and caviar service; and Upstairs at The Morrow, an expansive rooftop lounge and bar with unobstructed views of the city’s landmarks.
