Longtime Oakland Athletics executive and “Moneyball” guru Billy Beane, who never met a statistic he didn’t like, thinks steaking Jeopardy star James Holzhauer has a chance at making it to The Show
Holzhauer, who, like Beane does in baseball, uses an analytics-based approach while playing on the popular game show, dreamed of working in pro sports before becoming a professional gambler and has said in the past he always wanted to be the general manager of a baseball team
After watching Holzhauer answer questions on the show, Beane thinks the 34-year-old might actually get that chance.
“My first thought when I saw him was: We have to get this guy in baseball,” Beane told The Washington Post. “I’m going to go out on a limb and say when he’s done with [Jeopardy] he’s going to have an opportunity to work in any sport he wants. Or any industry — because all industries are based on data and making predictive decisions.”
When Holzhauer is done on the show remains to be seen, but he won’t get a chance to add to his winnings until May 20 after Jeopardy’s annual Teachers Tournament is over.
Once the show returns to regular programming on, Holzhauer will attempt to surpass Ken Jennings in total regular-game winnings. Jennings accrued more than $2.5 million throughout his 74-game winning streak back in 2004.
