Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers took time out of their late-night shows Tuesday to slam Republican senator Jeff Flake for announcing he won’t seek re-election over turmoil in Washington.
“Internal strife is tearing the Republican Party apart at the seams. It’s like a new Civil War, only this time neither side is trying to help black people,” Colbert quipped.
But it was Meyers’ tone that was more scathing: “All right! Jeff Flake! Way to eventually go!” he said. “It took kinda-sorta guts to stand up only 11 months after the election and tell America not to elect Donald Trump.”
Jimmy Fallon also took aim at Republicans, but focused on a different Republican senator — Bob Corker from Tennessee, who is in a current insult war with the president.
“Today Corker said that Trump is a bad role model for children. And Trump said, ‘Not true. I’ve even proven that a child can be elected president,’” Fallon, who rarely gets political, said.
Take a moment to watch Meyers above.
