Following the surprise announcement Urban Meyer would be leaving Ohio State after the Rose Bowl, many speculated the Buckeye coach had his sights set on a job in the NFL.
However, according to Meyer, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Meyer said there certainly will be a void in his life without the OSU job, but he doesn’t plan on filling it be coaching in the NFL.
In addition to his health, the biggest reason Meyer wouldn’t go to the NFL is that there is too much parity in the NFL
For someone who is used to, and requires, dominance, the risk of going 8-8 or even having a losing record would be too much to bear.
“I could never work at a place … I see some of these guys’ records because the NFL is so even,” Meyer said. “Some of these guys, their record is 74-58. I could never do that.”
What his next step will be remains unclear, but Meyer is intent on taking one that doesn’t involve losing games as an NFL coach.
“I hope,” he said, “I find something to fall in love with.”
