Longtime rivals, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are planning a one-on-one showdown … and this time, it’s personal.
And also, it’s for $10 million.
According to a report from Golf.com, Mickelson floated the idea of playing a “high-stakes, winner-take-all match” to Woods when they were paired together at the Players Championship.
After that conversation, plans for a head-to-head match for $10 million began to take shape and the event was initially slated to take place on July 3 in Las Vegas in a prime-time TV special.
However, negotiations for the event broke down and couldn’t be resolved in time for the 18-hole death match – during which both players will wear microphones to enhance the spectacle – to take place when scheduled.
“We’re working on a different date,” Mickelson said. “I thought it was done for the 3rd but obviously it wasn’t.”
Whenever it takes place, the matchup between Woods (79 PGA Tour victories) and Mickelson (43 PGA Tour victories) should be a good ‘un.
