Thought their harrowing ordeal scored them an invitation from FIFA to attend the World Cup final in Russia, the rescued Wild Boars soccer team will not be able to attend the match.

The Wild Boars, the last of whom was brought to safety from a cave in northern Thailand on Tuesday by a team of heroic divers, were stuck in a flooded cave for more than two weeks.

Being able to see the final on Sunday would be a nice treat for the 12 boys and their coach, but they have a good reason for not traveling to Russia.

“We have been informed by the Football Association of Thailand that due to medical reasons, the boys will not be in a position to travel to Moscow for the FIFA World Cup final,” FIFA announced Tuesday after the rescue operation was completed. “We will look into finding a new opportunity to invite the boys to a FIFA event to share with them a moment of communion and celebration.”

FIFA also offered condolences to the family of the Thai Navy SEAL diver who died saving the boys and expressed “profound gratitude to all persons involved in the rescue operation.”
