President Trump, who has repeatedly gone after the NFL’s handling of the national anthem protests, attacked the league again last week. Retired tight end Martellus Bennett had some thoughts to share on the matter.
The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again – can’t believe it! Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand. First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay!

Never one to hold back his opinion, the Super Bowl-winning Pro Bowler told Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman that Trump keeps fighting with the league because “it’s the easiest way for him to attack the culture of black people.”
According to Bennett, who has been outspoken about social issues in the past, Trump going after the NFL and black players kneeling helps him please his base.
“He sees the black athlete as someone that black people look up to. So he thinks you can attack black culture by attacking black NFL players,” he said. “I think, too, maybe there’s no rhyme or reason. Maybe he’s just an assh–e.”
Given these comments, it’ll be interesting to see what Bennett says when Trump tweets about the NFL, which, at this point, seems inevitable.
