After LeBron James reportedly reached out to Kevin Durant about the prospect of playing together, James had another NBA star contact him about teaming up: Kawhi Leonard.

The San Antonio Spurs star, 26, told 33-year-old James that he wants to play alongside him, a source told Yahoo Sports.

Leonard, who played in only a handful of games last season thanks to a mysterious injury, pitched James on his stellar defensive ability and the way it would alleviate the pressure on James on that end of the floor.

It’s also worth noting that Leonard is one of the few players in the NBA who can contain James, another reason why James would potentially want to play with Leonard instead of against him.

“Leonard – a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and two-time First-Team All-NBA selection – possesses the shooting prowess to play on or off the ball, and would seem to be an ideal fit with James,” according to Yahoo Sports.

James has until Friday night to opt out of his contract with the Cavaliers. If he does, any team in the league, including the Cavs, will be able to sign him when free agency opens on Sunday.
