After fewer than half of his passes for 38 yards, two interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 1.1, quarterback Mark Sanchez was benched by the Washington Redskins in favor of Josh Johson.
That would be fourth-string quarterback Josh Johnson — who last threw an NFL TD pass in 2011 before throwing one on Sunday.
At 6-7 following a 40-16 home loss to the New York Giants (5-8), the season is essentially over for the Redskins, but their ongoing quarterback problem is not.
Starter Alex Smith is unlikely to be ready for the 2019 season after breaking his leg and may not ever return to the NFL. Backup Colt McCoy is also out with a broken leg and is clearly not a long-term solution. The best thing one can say about Sanchez’s performance is that at least he didn’t have another butt fumble.
Which is where Colin Kaepernick, who many experts and fans have said should have already been on the Redskins’ radar, comes into play.
Two sources close to the former NFL quarterback said he is “ready and willing” to play for Washington should the franchise come calling, according to Yahoo.
Kaepernick would suit up for the ‘Skins despite their logo and name, as well as the reality team owner Dan Snyder was publicly critical of players kneeling during the national anthem.
“He’s a professional Super Bowl-caliber quarterback and in the best shape of his life and he would play if given the opportunity on any NFL team,” a source said.
