It doesn’t get quite as much attention as its multi-day NFL cousin, but the NBA Draft is must-see TV for hoopheads across the nation.
This year’s edition arrives a little earlier on the calendar and will be held this Thursday in Brooklyn, almost two weeks before free agency begins on July 1 when the official league year starts.
In advance of the draft, Sports Illustrated has put together a list of the top 100 prospects in this year’s eligible crop of players, as well as a slew of mock drafts.
At the top of both lists is University of Arizona center Deandre Ayton, a player who nearly everyone is high on, despite his inability to prevent his team from being upset by Buffalo in the NCAA tournament.
An athletic seven-footer, Ayton is said to have a soft touch, good court vision, and a solid jumper.
Next on the prospect list, but not in the mock draft, is Real Madrid guard Luka Dončić, an adept, ball-movement player who should help other players score and compares to Lonzo Ball.
Following Ayton and Dončić on the prospect list are Michigan State center Jaren Jackson, Duke forward Marvin Bagley III, Texas center Mohamed Bamba, and Duke center Wendell Carter.
