For Larry Fitzgerald, Sunday’s game at State Farm Stadium in Arizona could be his last.
Approaching the end of his 15th year in the NFL, the star receiver is currently stuck on one of the worst teams in the NFL, a situation that likely won’t change next season.
As such, the 35-year-old wideout has to decide whether he wants to return for another year in the NFL to play for a team that has no realistic shot of competing for Super Bowl.
Approaching Arizona’s final home game of the season, Fitzgerald has yet to tackle that decision and said he is treating the Cardinals’ matchup with the LA Rams on Sunday as “no different than any other game.”
“[I’m] honed in and ready to play as I have the hundreds of other times I have done it,” Fitzgerald said.
As to the direct question of whether this would be his last time suiting up in front of Arizona’s home crowd, the 11-time Pro Bowler was a bit vaguer.
“It may. It may not,” he said. “NFL careers end every Sunday. I’m just blessed to be able to play the game I love. I have spoken with many guys who have played in the past and they say you will know when it’s time.”
If Fitzgerald does continue to play, it will only be for the Cardinals. “I have never had any desire to play anywhere else,” he assured. “I started here.
