Kirk Cousins’ Contract Could Impact a New Deal for Aaron Rodgers

The Packers quarterback is likely going to demand fully guaranteed money from Green Bay.

Earlier this month, the Minnesota Vikings signed Kirk Cousins to a three-year, $84 million fully guaranteed contract.

That deal will change Cousins’ life – and it could have a big impact on the life of one of his division rivals as well.

Even though Aaron Rodgers still has two years left on his contract (with an average salary of $22 million per season), the 34-year-old is in the process of negotiating a new deal with the Green Bay Packers.

In the wake of the Vikings giving Cousins fully guaranteed money, it’s likely that Rodgers will want the same. That could be somewhat of an issue for the Packers as the team only has about $20 million in available salary-cap space at this time.

Despite that issue, team president Mark Murphy believes the two sides will be able to work out a new deal for Rodgers this offseason, according to ESPN.

“We’re going to do what’s best for the Packers organization in the long run,” Murphy said. “But as I said before, I’m confident we’ll be able to work around it. At the end of the day, we want Aaron to be a Packer for the rest of his career. He wants to play ’til he’s 40, and I think it just makes sense for both sides to figure out a way to get it done.”
