Jimmy Garoppolo: I Thought I Was Better Than Tom Brady

Garoppolo said he always had a "quiet confidence" in his abilities over Brady's.

Based on who he chooses to date, it’s pretty obvious San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo does not lack confidence.

And, in a new interview with Bleacher Report where Jimmy G talked about his relationship with Tom Brady, that confidence almost seems to verge on arrogance.

Over the course of the interview, Garoppolo talks about meeting Brady for the first time, competing against him in practice, and how he feels the two quarterbacks stack up against each other on the football field.

It is a lot closer than you might think.

Garoppolo said that when he first got to New England, he had “quiet confidence” in himself and one thought in his head:  “I’m better than this dude.”

And, while he wouldn’t always verbalize that feeling, it didn’t change after developing “a healthy, competitive relationship” with Brady.

“I’m not stupid,” he said. “You have to pick your battles, but I had belief in myself that I could do certain things, and it’s always worked out pretty well. It will always be in me, that drive that comes from my dad telling me that someone is always working harder, that I’m always in last place and I need to catch up to someone else.”

If he wants to catch Brady in Super Bowl rings, he’ll need at least three more.
