A Senate subcommittee has asked the Justice Department and the FBI to investigate the former head of the United States Olympic Committee.
As part of its investigation into sexual abuse in Olympic and amateur sports, the Senate subcommittee wants to determine if ex-USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun lied to Congress during the inquiry into how the Larry Nassar molestation case was handled by Olympic entities.
In letters to the attorney general and the FBI director, subcommittee members Sen. Jerry Moran and Sen. Richard Blumenthal claimed Blackmun “made false claims and misled our subcommittee – harming the investigation and ability to develop policy.”
“The Subcommittee takes its oversight role seriously,” according to the letter. “Survivors of abuse have had to wait longer for the truth and longer for systemic changes to help prevent others from similar injury.”
Blackmun resigned from his post in February
