Porn Star Reports Extreme Sport-Level Injuries Sustained on the Job

As a sex-haver with so little athletic ambition that reverse cowgirl is outside my physical comfort zone, I’ve always admired the strength, endurance and often downright acrobatic abilities porn stars bring to the act. Still, I’ve never exactly thought of porn as a sport, but based on the extreme sport-level injuries one industry professional claims to have sustained during her time in front of the camera, it seems like it might as well be.

During a recent appearance on the Plug Talk Podcast, adult movie star Adriana Chechik opened up about the toll porn acting has taken on her body, including damage to her neck, spine and even brain stem sustained during intense scenes.

“I have a really fucked up neck now. I have a pinched nerve and my C6 and 7 [parts of the spine] are out of place,” Chechik revealed on the podcast, adding that she has also suffered a slipped disk and her “brain stem actually came out of pocket a little bit.”

That all sounds pretty horrifying, but according to Chechik, injuries of such an intense nature are more or less in line with the intensity of her craft, one she compares to “sexier wrestling.” Indeed, like pro athletes, Chechik says she takes an ice bath after shooting in order to help her body recover from the toll of filming a rough scene. The star also said her doctors have encouraged her to slow down her career in order to minimize the toll on her body. According to the actress, her doctor once strongly encouraged her to put plans for an orgy scene on hold while her body recovered.

“He was like, ‘Can you please just wait one year for this? Can you let your body heal appropriately?’ And I was like, ‘No, I have to do it.’ He was like, ‘Please, just treat yourself right!’” she said on the podcast.

While some in our regrettably anti-porn society may be tempted to frame Chechik’s injuries as more evidence of the “dangers” of porn and ammo in the war against it, Chechik herself has no plans to leave the industry, which she entered in 2013.

While the injuries Chechik has reportedly sustained over the course of her career are certainly shocking, they are not unlike those elite athletes often endure in the name of their sport. As long as porn performers are receiving the same level of quality care and concern from their industry as pro athletes get from theirs, I think we could all stand to respectfully recognize porn performers for the level of athletic intensity their career often demands. While sex may not technically be a sport, pros like Chechik certainly treat it like it like one, and I hope we can all one day look forward to the first annual porn Olympics.
