SF retailers large and small are all contending with the same economic turmoil — and those that can are working to support the city in hugely creative and philanthropic ways.

If you need a flag to rally around, we suggest Brian Stokle’s “The Fog & Gold Flag,” a suitable-for-2020 revision of our existing city flag. The phoenix symbolism is, in fact, not new to it — it even predates, by six years, the 1906 fire that many believe inspired its design.

Anchor Brewing Company, meanwhile, partnered with S.F. artist Jeremy Fish on the design of its “Stay Strong SF” T-shirt. It’s just 20 bucks, with 100 percent of proceeds going to the United States Bartenders Guild and its Bartender Emergency Assistance Program.

Below, five more ways SF retailers are supporting the fight against the pandemic.

1. Triple Aught Design

Of any SF brand, TAD seems tailor-designed for COVID living (though take a close look at these DSPTCH “face coverings” while you’re gearing up). Celebrate TAD’s commitment to working alongside the city’s biggest primary PPE makers by checking out the roster of exclusive goods — prototypes, one-offs, etc. — now up for sale in a sealed-bid auction. Don’t dilly-dally, as bidding ends at noon tomorrow, 5/15, strict.

2. Everlane

Everyone’s favorite casual-everyday outfitter is donating one mask to Feeding America with every purchase of a three-pack of masks — in Everlane’s typically dynamic color palette (black, dark gray, light gray).

3. Rothy’s

Pick up something for your favorite lady, like these famous pointed-toe flats — depending on her degree of access to Inside Edition, she will either identify them as “perfectly fine” or “those shoes Meghan Markle loves.” The brand is now working to deliver 100,000 masks “to those who need them.”

4. Levi’s

S.F.’s sui generis retailer has pledged $3 million to various organizations — including Chinese for Affirmative Action, VisionSpring, and The Tipping Point. Also, their resident men’s stylist is here to show us how to improvise a mask with a bandana and rubber bands.

5. North Face

The North Face has earmarked $1 million to support “the outdoor communities all over the world that make exploration possible.” A 50 percent discount for verified healthcare workers and first responders has been extended through the end of 2020.
