When We Die, Bury Us in These Hiking Boots and Nothing Else

‘He was a noble man, and had excellent taste in footwear.’

A rugged hiking boot that can conquer mountains but still look great on the subway platform is a true style boon — just not very easy to find.

If there’s one place you’re near guaranteed to encounter it, though, it’s Chicago’s Oak Street Bootmakers, where they know a thing or two about making rugged boots that play as nicely in the city as they do in the wild, not to mention how to build footwear for all four seasons.

The brand’s newest silhouette — the Summit Boot — comes in two colors: black and burgundy. But for us, it’s the shape and timeless alpine touches that make this a hiking boot one to remember. Sitting atop thick, heavy-duty Commando outsoles, the Horween leather boot features a gusseted tongue and full calfskin lining, and with just five D-ring eyelets, there’s something very minimalist and clean about it.

Which makes ’em work with whatever outfit you throw at ’em, from jeans and an overshirt to full-on hiking gear.
