“When you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone they have had sex with.”

A dictum that somehow proves Charlie Sheen is in your sex tree.

So … maybe you should get a clean bill of health before you start swiping right again.

Now you can, thanks to a brand new, 10-minute, non-invasive kit called GetTested.

Basically, GT is an at-home STD test kit that sells itself on convenience and discretion.

On the first note: GT claims that less than half of adults aged 18-44 have been tested for an STD other than HIV. Given that about 1 in 5 Americans have a sexually transmitted disease — and 80% of those people don’t know they are infected — you should probably be more safe than sorry.

Especially if you’re a serial online dater: GetTested claims that meeting people online makes you three times more likely to get infected. With one DIY sample, GT can screen for seven different diseases — trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital herpes, HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis (HPV, Zika and herpes 1 fans are out of luck, for now).

How it works:

  1. Order a kit. It arrives in a generic Priority Mail envelope
  2. Using the enclosed kit, return a urine sample and a finger-prick blood sample. Takes about 10 minutes, tops. Send back with prepaid packaging.
  3. Check your results online in three days.

According to the company, the testing has “the same diagnostic accuracy as testing in a laboratory or clinic.” They’re HIPAA compliant (which protects your confidentiality) and they partner with CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited labs that are part of the PWNHealth network, which does about five million screenings a year.*

Nothing bad in your results? Carry on. Got some surprising news? You’ll receive a consultation with one of GT’s physicians at no additional cost.

GT kits are $199 and available now.

* We asked for a bit more on the lab, and GT came back to us with this: “Our partner lab offers the most comprehensive test using only two sample collection materials, a blood card and a vaginal swab for women or urine sample for men. This is unprecedented and not offered by any other company at the moment. Unlike other tests, GetTested offers a full panel exam that tests for seven of the most common STDs. HIV testing is performed on a 4th generation platform, which is the newest and most accurate testing available. Every test in our kit has been extensively validated using the best chemistry and equipment available. We developed a proprietary in-house method to extract a sample from a dried blood spot in such a way that the accuracy is equal to a standard test that requires a full venipuncture blood draw. Our lab affiliate has spent over 2 years collecting samples and data to ensure that our method is accurate with an overall accuracy of >99%. That number is actually better than many standard tests still being offered by hospitals and physicians. Many of the individual components of our tests are FDA cleared and all tests have been fully validated according to state and federal guidelines (which include CLIA and College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards). Our laboratory only uses the most current methods that are proven to have the highest level of accuracy for clinical diagnostic testing.”
