When the going gets tough, the tough get boots.

Not chintzy suede city boots that need a weekly shine and stay in your closet on rainy days. We’re talking Alpine stompers: Lug sole. Resilient outer. The kind of boots that coffee tables stub their toes on.

The Amerigo — the newest model from Brooklyn-based footwear upstart GREATS — fits the bill. Available in the appropriately named Dune and Storm, it features a Vibram lug sole, nickel-plated D-rings, custom string-style laces, Vachetta leather lining and a fully gusseted tongue.

The design, which combines GREATS’ signature Italian craftsmanship with an old-school American hiking silhouette, was “inspired by those who walk the road less traveled,” according to its designers.

And at $260, the value aint half bad, uh, to boot. As the company also notes, “It’s ok to buy status, just don’t overpay.”
