Frank Sinatra. Britney Spears. Celine Dion. Barry Manilow. All soloists indelibly linked to Las Vegas. The Killers? Without question, they are the greatest band to ever come out of Sin City.
From the opening notes of their 2004 debut, Hot Fuss, it was clear that the band’s synthesizer-drenched, anthemic rock was white hot—and the numbers backed it up: The album hit No. 7 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. and went all the way to No. 1 in the U.K., where the act has seen a much larger, sustained amount of interest. The album was also riddled with hit singles, including “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me,” and “All These Things That I’ve Done.”
But that was 13 years ago.
Three more solid, well-received albums later, The Killers are poised to release their fifth album, Wonderful Wonderful, on Nov. 24. And the first single, “The Man,” doesn’t disappoint. With a decidedly Bowie-esque hook, which hints at “Fame,” it has an unmistakable cool.
