Terrorists have turned rock concerts into soft targets before—the November 2015 attack on Paris’s Bataclan nightclub attack left 130 dead. But Monday night’s horrific attack in Manchester was especially devastating given the age of many of the victims.
A suicide bomber detonated a nail-bomb in the foyer of the Manchester Arena, killing 22, some of whom were young girls who had just attended a concert by pop star Ariana Grande.
As the news broke and details emerged, so did the outpouring of love and condolences from the pop music and celebrity communities on social media.
Below, we’ve included some of their messages posted on Twitter, starting with one from Grande herself, who made it out of the arena safely—but is clearly shaken.

Of course, with every mass tragedy also comes incredible heartlessness. The Twitter troll getting the most vitriol sent his way this morning is David Leavitt, a Twitter-verified freelance journalist, whose bio says he writes for CBS, Yahoo, and the Examiner. He tweeted: “MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena. The last time I listened to Ariana Grande I almost died too.” (He’s since deleted the tweet.)
Piers Morgan, among others, tweeted an expletive-laced response to Leavitt’s tweet this morning.
