Are they selling fear? Yes.
But they’re wrapping it in a bulletproof laptop bag, and that is, admittedly, pretty Bond-level awesome.
Released by Force Training Institute, a California-based crisis management group/self-defense academy, the MTS Multi-Threat Shield is a fairly normal black laptop/messenger bag on the surface.
But underneath, it houses one amazing trick: A built-in ballistic shield that unfolds with a snap of the wrist.
The shield is actually a three-foot long, 639-square-inch blanket that promises to protect you from “most handgun, shotgun and pistol caliber sub-machine gun threats.” Meaning: it’s strong enough to stop a .44 Magnum traveling 1,412 feet per second, classified as Level IIIA protection, and will also stave off blunt and edged weapons.
It does weigh eight pounds, but what’s a little heavy lifting when your life is on the line?
As the manufacturer notes, it also comes with a expandable utility pouch with “covert access,” offering you a chance to carry a gun or Taser.
Or, you know, a laptop.
That’s one way to keep your files secure.
