The British press is aflutter with the news that Daniel Craig will return as James Bond—momentarily dashing the hopes of Idris Elba fans the world over.
And he apparently wouldn’t be returning alone: Producers are also reportedly eyeing having platinum-selling artist Adele return to record another Bond theme. (The singer won a Grammy and Golden Globe for the theme to Skyfall.)
All the hoopla is due to a Mirror report on July 8—citing a single source—that said “It’s taken time but Daniel has come around and the strong consensus in the Bond offices is that Mr. Craig is 007 again. As for Adele, she’s more of an unknown quantity but loved being part of Bond, so the signs are positive.” The source also told the Mirror that Craig’s wife Rachel Weisz is “on board with the decision.”
That may come as news to Craig himself after the actor was quoted in 2015 as saying he’d rather “slash my wrists” than play Bond again.
Rumors have been rampant ever since about whether or not he’ll take on the role again.
The U.S. press has been less quick to jump on the bandwagon. Neither major entertainment industry trade publication, The Hollywood Reporter nor Variety, have picked up on the news; while Slate, Fox News, and Business Insider have all wondered out loud in headlines whether it’s true.
