“Jackass” Is Returning to TV, And They’ve Got Sharks

It's a wonder this hasn't happened sooner

There’s something about watching talented people taking part in absurdly ornate stunts on screen — some death-defying, some bizarre and some just gross — that the majority of the American viewing public finds deeply compelling. (Full disclosure: I am one of these viewers.) All of which suggests that this October, when Jackass 4 is released, will bring joy to plenty of people around the country and the world.

But for those craving even more bizarre stunts involving Johnny Knoxville and company, there’s a precursor coming to television even sooner, and it boasts a fantastic elevator pitch: What if Jackass also involved sharks?

At Uproxx, Mike Redmond has more details on the upcoming event. The Discovery Channel is kicking off Shark Week on July 11, and on that evening at 10 pm EST, the Jackass Shark Week Special will air. “Johnny Knoxville sends Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and new Jackass cast members on a Shark Week mission for the ages,” reads the synopsis. “They’ll dial up a series of shark stunts that test their bravery and threshold of pain as they put common shark myths to the test with the help of Dr. Craig O’Connell.”

Let’s hope no one gets eaten.

The full array of Shark Week events also includes a Stranger Things-themed special, a search for a cryptid shark in Mexico and an appearance by William Shatner. Sadly, the Shatner appearance does not seem to be slated for the Jackass special; one can online imagine what that combination might be like.
