One of the first employees to walk in the door at Fox News is following a number of her high-profile colleagues out of it.

Approximately three weeks after Shepard Smith abruptly announced he would be leaving Fox, Catherine Herridge, the chief intelligence correspondent at the network and one of its founding employees, is leaving to join CBS News.

Herridge’s contract at Fox expired over the summer and they wanted her to renew, but was aware that her exit was a possibility, sources told CNN. Friday will be her last day.

Herridge, who started working at Fox 23 years ago, is joining CBS News as a senior investigative correspondent based in Washington, D.C., her new employer announced today.

“CBS News has always placed a premium on enterprise journalism and powerful investigations,” Herridge said. “I feel privileged to join a team where facts and storytelling will always matter.”

Herridge, who has reported from remote locations including Afghanistan, Iraq, Qatar, Israel and Northern Ireland, will do investigative work and cover national security and intelligence matters in her new role.

“Catherine Herridge is a skilled investigative correspondent who has consistently brought depth and originality to her reporting,” said CBS VP Christopher Isham. “We are very excited that she will be joining the outstanding team at the Washington Bureau.”
